Elections often lead to a wave of disinformation on social media. It can not only influence people in the wrong way, but also manipulate the results. With the 2021 Assembly Elections taking place in India, Twitter has now come up with new features to make sure you are receiving genuine information instead of fake news. Below is how you can use search prompts and article prompts on Twitter to stay informed and informed during elections.

Ways to stay aware and informed on Twitter

1. Look for prompts on Twitter

Twitter India has partnered with the Indian Election Commission and State Election Commissions to launch a dedicated search invite on the platform. This makes it easier for you to find credible and authentic information from reliable sources. This includes information on candidate lists, voting dates, voting booths, EVM voters
registration and other election-related matters.

On the Twitter app

  1. Open the Twitter app on your phone.
  2. Click the Explore tab.
  3. Type an election-related keyword and press Enter.
  4. On the next screen, you will see a prompt on “Get the latest updates”.
  5. Click on it for credible, real-time election updates.

On the Twitter Web

  1. Open the Twitter site on your desktop.
  2. Tap the search bar in the top right corner.
  3. Type an election-related keyword and press Enter.
  4. A prompt on “Get the latest updates will appear. You can use it to get quick and credible election updates.

2. Twitter article prompts

Article Prompt is another feature deployed by Twitter to prevent the dissemination of non-genuine information during elections. Whenever you tweet or retweet a related article, Twitter will automatically invite you to read the article first if you haven’t already.

Once you’ve selected the retweet button on a tweet with a related post, Twitter will check to see if the post was clicked. It will then invite you to read the article once. You can then choose to open the article or continue the retweet.

3. Hide replies on Twitter

You cannot delete other people’s replies to your tweets. But you can prevent them from getting noticed. Answers that you don’t want to be noticed may be hidden from others. People can see and interact with hidden replies by tapping on the gray icon that will appear on hidden tweets.

To hide a reply on Twitter, click on the three dots of the reply. Then select Hide answer and confirm. To view your hidden responses, tap the hidden response icon available in the
at the bottom right of your original Tweet.

You can further limit the number of people who can reply to your tweets. When composing a tweet, select the globe icon and choose who can reply to your Tweet from the following options: i) Everyone ii) People you follow iii) Only people you mention.
