Jose Gimenez reportedly has no plans to leave Atletico Madrid amid ties with Chelsea and Manchester City.
The 27-year-old is yet to sign another contract on his current contract with Wanda Metropolitano, which expires in 2023, and Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked with a summer blow to the defender.
The Uruguay international is normally one of the first names on Atletico’s scoresheet, but he has persevered through a disconcerting season with injuries under Diego Simeone, starting just 16 La Liga games.
Either way, Marca reports that Gimenez is not considering leaving the club, implying that Chelsea and Manchester City would have to look elsewhere as they continued to seek defensive fortifications.
The report adds that Gimenez expects to make recent setbacks in the 2021-22 season and that he feels right at home in the Spanish capital, despite how few clubs in Europe are interested.
Gimenez has made 213 appearances for Atletico since arriving from Danubio in 2013, winning a La Liga title and a Europa League during that time.
