After months of rumors, Changchun Yatai has officially signed veteran Brazilian striker Júnior Negrão on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old recently left South Korean club Ulsan Hyundai after a hugely successful three-year spell that ended with three consecutive Team of the Year appearances and a Champions League title. ‘AFC in 2020.
The Salvador native has been prolific for the K-League club, scoring 84 goals and adding nine assists in 125 appearances in all competitions – ending the 2020 season as the league’s top scorer with 26.
Negrão also finished as the AFC 2020 Champions League top scorer, helping the Tigers win the second continental title in their history, culminating the most successful period of the veteran striker’s career.
With Negrão’s deal expiring, the Brazilian has made the decision to look elsewhere for new opportunities and will join compatriots Lucas Souza, Erik Lima and Serginho in Changchun Yatai – providing the club with a truly powerful attacking force.
An attacking front from Erik, Negrão and Tan Long with Serginho sitting in 10th place means Changchun Yatai has improved considerably from their winning season in China League One, which hopefully sets them up for a solid Chinese Super League return season.
The Chinese transfer window is set to close this week, with reports that the northeastern club may still sign Danish center-back Jores Okore, and other domestic signings such as Wang Peng, Zhang Yu and Mao Kaiyu n ‘ have still not been officially announced.
Although the start of the new season has yet to be announced, Changchun Yatai will be a club keen to jump in and see how far Chen Yang can take them, led by an outstanding hitting core.
