Gao Di could be forward’s in-depth response for Changchun Yatai

Changchun Yatai has a serious lack of depth as a forward and veteran Gao Di could be the answer to that.

Working through the Shandong Luneng Youth System, Gao Di, originally from Qufu, has been at the professional level for many years, making his debut in 2009.

Never able to establish himself as a first-team regular, a 2013 loan with Hangzhou Greentown, where he scored five goals in 21 Chinese Super League appearances, was enough to secure him a transfer to Shanghai Shenhua.

Since arriving in 2014, Gao Di has played 91 games in the Middle Empire’s largest city, scoring 13 goals in the process.

He had a goalless loan spell with Jiangsu Suning in 2017, and after six years with Shenhua, could very well be about to leave.

His performances in the top category saw him win two caps for the Chinese national team in 2014, but he has been nothing better than a substitute at this level.

With the 2020 Chinese Super League kicking off last week, Gao Di found himself unregistered and unable to play for Shenhua, leaving open the possibility of him joining another team, presumably China League One.

A second tier squad who could really benefit from the addition of the veteran striker could be Changchun Yatai, who is looking for another striker with winter signing Aaron Olanare who is no longer expected to be in the squad. team in 2020.

Brazil’s Serginho and China international Tan Long can both play in the position, but they are preferred elsewhere and the need for a starter is a serious need for manager Samvel Babayan.

Gao Di, that’s not it. But, aside from their need for a starter, the club are in desperate need of adding another option to provide them with long-term depth, with the seasoned Chinese striker more than capable of doing just that.

Tan Long’s best season in the top category saw him score eight goals for Changchun Yatai. His first season in the second tier showed his quality scoring 18 goals to become the league’s MVP.

Gao Di, who contributes a few goals per season in the CSL, could very well become a more consistent China League One goalscorer, retaining value for a side desperate to regain a promotion in the first row.

A foreign importing player is always likely to be brought into the northeastern club, but the addition of someone like Gao Di could help Babayan with his options and give the club some much-needed depth.
