Rio Ferdinand explains his choice to win the 2021 Champions League

Rio Ferdinand has revealed why he believes Paris Saint-Germain will triumph this season in the Champions League and end their long-held dream of being crowned Kings of Europe.

The Qatar-owned Ligue 1 giants were beaten as finalists under Thomas Tuchel last season as Bayern Munich claimed the glory. But they hope to do better this time around as they prepare for the semi-finals.

Staying on their way in the bottom four is Manchester City’s little business. Pep Guardiola’s team have their own ambitions to win a first European Cup.

Tuchel’s new side Chelsea will face Real Madrid in the first semi-final. But Ferdinand is adamant that PSG are the team to beat and he expects them to taste the glory next month in Istanbul.

“I think Paris Saint-Germain will win it,” he predicted on his Rio Ferdinand presents CINQ Youtube channel.

“They have the experience of last season, two forwards, the end of season stuff, they know what it is now.

“They came here together, they are not fazed and I think they will have the experience. [Mauricio] Pochettino smells of roses after a few restless years.

“I don’t think they’ll care [if he doesn’t win the league]. If he wins the Champions League, he is surpassed everyone because that is what they are there for.

“Remember, he only arrived halfway through the season. His fingerprints aren’t everywhere in this league.

Ferdinand believes Pochettino can become a legend at PSG if he wins the Champions League.

“He could be treated like Roberto Di Matteo: win the Champions League and then be told to do one.

“You never know, we’ll see. But I guess if he wins the Champions League, they almost give him a statue outside of this place.

Pochettino reveals PSG’s Champions League goal

Pochettino is hoping for a similar result from his previous experience, with Tottenham, in the 2019 Champions League semi-finals.

This time around, they fought to beat Ajax and secure a place in the final against Liverpool.

After losing the 2020 Champions League final to Bayern, the Qatari owners of PSG now hope to do better.

“The goal for the last 10 years has been to win the Champions League and the club are working very hard to try to be there and win.” Pochettino commented.

“It’s this last step, which is always the most difficult. If you remember at Tottenham the last leg was always the hardest thing. But Paris Saint-Germain is there and now it’s about winning. I love to feel that way. I love to feel that you have to win every game. “
