Sydney FC 1-0 Melbourne Victory: Bobo places hosts in second place in A-League

An early goal from Bobo was enough to give Sydney FC a 1-0 home victory over Melbourne Victory, which placed them second in the A-League on Tuesday.

Bobo led a cross from Luke Brattan after six minutes as Sydney ended a streak of three consecutive draws to move one point behind leaders Melbourne City, although they played two more games.

The victory remains in second place despite a fight performance without a suspended quartet Callum McManaman, Robbie Kruse, Jake Brimmer and Adama Traore.

Sydney forward Kosta Barbarouses had three efforts turned away by Matt Acton, who finished the game with an impressive nine saves that kept the fight close.

The hosts were worthy winners, finishing with 10 shots on target against Victory’s three, Alex Baumjohann creating five chances in a lively performance.

But Ben Folami wasted an opportunity to win as Lleyton Brooks hit the post in the second half with an aerial effort of his own as Sydney almost paid the price not to put the outcome in doubt.
