English Premier League club Sheffield United have confirmed the loan signing for Changchun striker Yatai Richairo Zivkovic.
The 23-year-old Dutchman joins the Blades until the end of the 2019/20 Premier League season, giving himself a chance to impress and win a permanent move during the summer transfer window.
Zivkovic has been an important player in Changchun Yatai’s search for promotion in 2019, scoring 16 goals in 25 league appearances, forming a solid partnership with Tan Long.
As Changchun ultimately failed to finish the season in the top two places in the league, this has led a number of their top players to be linked with moves, with defender Yu Rui already joining the Shanghai SIPG earlier this month- this.
After the arrival of attacking midfielder / second striker Serginho, it emerged that the squad will remain largely intact, although Zivkovic’s departure now forces the club into a difficult situation.
With no real striker recognized in the books, with Tan Long arguably no longer a winger now, the club will need to act quickly to find a suitable replacement who can have the same impact as the former Netherlands Under-21 international.
With Maurides and Stefan Drazic both disappointing last season, manager Samvel Babayan will need to make sure he lands the right kind of player for the Chinese second tier, able to build chemistry with Serginho and Tan Long.
If he’s not able to do it, it could be a very long season for the former Chinese Super League champions.
