Toby Alderweireld is not the only Tottenham center-back to be watched by Ajax as the Dutch club have now also been linked with Davinson Sanchez.
There could be some major changes to Tottenham’s bottom line this summer. Jose Mourinho was not happy with this department before he was sacked. From now on, the club will seek to strengthen the position of whoever replaces the coach. This means that some of their current options may have to give way.
Alderweireld and Sanchez face a particularly uncertain future. The former reflects on how to spend the last years of his career, while the latter has undergone careful scrutiny and has been regularly linked to an outing.
Ajax has become a potential destination for Alderweireld earlier this week. The Belgian started his senior career with the Dutch and now they could try to attract him.
This suggestion is supported by Football 24, who also adds that Sanchez is on the Amsterdam club’s agenda.
Sanchez also has a background with Ajax. He was there a season before Spurs broke their transfer record to sign him in 2017.
Only 24 years old, Sanchez still has time to prove himself and is under contract until 2024. However, Tottenham could have a decision to make on his future if an offer comes in.
It could come from Ajax, who are now thinking of their two former players. They want to strengthen themselves defensively and might turn to familiar faces to do so.
However, their chances of signing Sanchez are slimmer than Alderweireld’s. The latter remains attached to the club and would be inclined to choose them over someone like Club Brugge if he left Tottenham.
He still remains hopeful of forcing his return into a regular row under Mourinho’s successor, however.
Therefore, Ajax appear to be keeping their options open in their pursuit.
Spurs still looking for a winger
In addition to defense, Tottenham are looking to strengthen themselves further this summer.
And they haven’t given up on their interest in Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard despite Mourinho’s departure, according to reports.
News of Spurs’ interest emerged in January, when it was announced they could make an offer for him this summer.
Damsgaard, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s international teammate, has kept his form ever since. Therefore, it remains an attractive proposition for Tottenham.
According to Club Doria 46, Sampdoria has identified Damsgaard as a player they can sell this summer to balance the books. Moreover, the report names Tottenham as one of its contenders.
Juventus and Inter want to give Damsgaard the opportunity to progress to Serie A. However, he has plenty of suitors in other countries, with Tottenham at the top of the list.
It could cost between € 20m and € 25m to reward the 20-year-old away from Sampdoria.
