Chelsea welcomed Premier League rivals Arsenal to Stamford on Wednesday.
The matches saw the Chelsea manager give Kepa Arrizabalaga a nod to start the game against the Gunners.
The match ended in a 1-0 defeat against the Blues following a mistake by Jorginho.
The Italian midfielder made a sad pass back to Kepa who almost rolled into the empty Chelsea net with Kepa clawing the ball off the line.
But the loose ball met Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who forced Emile Smith Rowe to score for the visiting Gunners after 16 minutes.
After the Blues’ loss, coach Thomas Tuchel revealed why he pitched Kepa for the game.
According to Tuchel, he said Kepa had the chance to get a feel for the clash at Wembley this Saturday in the FA Cup final against Leicester City.
“We thought it was a good idea to give him the game before,” Tuchel said at a press conference.
“Because first of all we trust him and he deserves [it]. That’s why we put him in the line-up, ”he added.
Kepa has started every game for Chelsea in the FA Cup and it would be fair to let him start in the final against the Foxes.
