The English media in general have been criticized for overreacting to Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson who missed a free kick in an international friendly with Romania.
The midfielder was taken off the bench at half-time, returning to the pitch after a four-month absence with a serious injury, and claimed a penalty when England had a 1-0 lead.
Henderson pulled a fairly docile effort on the goalie and he was saved easily. The Three Lions eventually won 1-0, but the Liverpool star reacted strongly.
Taking to Twitter sometime after Monday morning’s newspaper splatter made its way onto social media, @Watch_LFC Images shared from the Express, Telegraph, Daily Mail and Metro on the missed penalty.

MORE: ‘Missed penalties bigger than that’ – Henderson pokes fun at missed kick in England clash
While we at Empire of the Kop can understand how frustrating it is to see the Liverpool captain being singled out for such an insane act, manager Gareth Southgate has some explaining to do.
Speaking after the 1-0 win, the England boss said “maybe we’ll pull the table next time” when talking about Henderson’s missed kick.
Even though it appears some members of the English media took the first opportunity to castigate and run with the Liverpool star, Southgate gave them fuel to start the fire – and for something so trivial.
