HEBER CITY – Three people have died and the southbound US 189 was closed for four hours after three vehicles were involved in a fiery crash on Monday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
According to Utah Highway Patrol officials, the crash happened after a Jeep suddenly slowed down and was struck by a red truck driving behind it. The Jeep caught fire after the initial impact, officials from the Utah Highway Patrol said.
A third vehicle was involved after the initial accident and boned the Jeep. The third vehicle, an SUV, also caught fire after colliding with the Jeep.
Utah Highway Patrol officials said they were unsure why the Jeep caught fire after the initial impact and were investigating the cause.
The soldiers are trying to identify the victims with VIN numbers, officials said.
The road reopened after 10 p.m. Monday at 1200 West near Heber City, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
No other information was released.
