The President of the Republic, Macky Sall, decided on Monday to elevate the players of the national beach soccer team to the rank of knight in the National Order of the Lion and to grant 10 million CFA francs to each of them. them as well as to the technical staff.
President Sall made the announcement by welcoming this national team, winner, on May 29th, of the 2021 edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) beach soccer at the expense of Mozambique (4-1) .
“My dear Lions, you have filled us with joy, honored and made us proud. It is right that the nation honor you. This is the meaning of this ceremony, ”said Macky Sall.
According to him, the present ceremony is therefore a “debt of gratitude that the nation” owed the beach soccer Lions for a long time.
“I am happy to pay off this debt today in the name of the Republic and the nation. It’s only justice. Indeed, from 2008 to date, your course, like a ray of light, illuminates the beaches of Africa and the world, dazzles your opponents, enchants your supporters and fascinates all beach soccer fans ”, underlined the head of the State.
He recalled the laudatory record of the national beach soccer team, six times African champion in 2008, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2019 and 2021, quarter-finalist of the World Cup, four times (2007, 2011 , 2017 and 2019) and winner of numerous tournaments in the United States, Europe and on the African continent.
For Macky Sall, the success of the proteges of trainer Ngala Sylla deserves “to be offered as an example to all the sportsmen of our country and to his youth”.
“This is why I would like a special place to be reserved for you at the Pape Bouba DIOP museum which will be set up within the confines of the future Senegal Stadium in Diamniadio,” said President Sall.
