A group of former Atlus developers who previously worked on the Shin megami tensei franchise has launched a brand new IP JRPG called Monarch. The developers have just created its first trailer, showing the characters of the “new school RPG” and a brief overview of its gameplay. As the CMS and the Nobody Atlus games, it looks like Monarch will have an unnamed hero (probably also mostly silent) and a collection of colorful allies you can fight with.
According to the latest issue of Famitsu weekly as reported by Gematsu, Monark’s story follows the True Student Council which was tasked with solving strange events at their school. The Hero, who becomes head of the council, must choose an ally to solve the mysteries with four characters. Each character has a different journey, and the story itself has multiple endings.
Battles are command based and use a free turn system, which would come as no surprise to CMS and Nobody Fans. Based on the trailer, you will be able to control the demons during the battles. In fact, your demonic minions will be affected by your “Ego” points, and you will be able to change their appearance and voice as well. The game’s “Ego” system marks you for the pride, anger, envy, lust, gluttony, and laziness you exhibit throughout your game, depending on the choices you make.
Monarch will be available October 14, 2021 in Japan on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS5. Unfortunately, there is still no information on a Western release date, nor even if there will be one in the future.
